Johnny Doesn't Drink Champagne by Cody Young
Book 1-Time Travel/Vampire Series
"I'm seventeen and he's twenty-one. That's okay...isn't it? He drives a Lamborghini. So what? He was born in 1462. Uh-oh. He seeks revenge, but there is one person standing in his way. Me."

On a high school trip to London, Madison Lambourne starts out on the wrong foot and things go from bad to worse. She forgets her jacket on the plane and ends up losing her group. While waiting for her luggage she meets a handsome young man who mistakes her for someone else named Madeline. After Mrs. Bertorelli finds her and they get her luggage...thanks to the handsome man...she retrieves a note he dropped. An old note written in her own handwriting.

As her class tours London, Maddie is caught into a deeper mystery. She meets Johnny De Vere, the airport hunk, at the Tower of London. He takes her different places and seems to think she should feel as if she had been there before. She starts finding Johnny a bit scary, although still hunky. Suddenly Maddie finds herself time traveling to 1483 London. A time where two young boys are going to be murdered because they are a threat to the new king. She also learns that vampires do exist and she seems to be falling for one.

This is a hard-to-put-down type book. Full of adventure, romance and rich history. Johnny and the other Patrons may be vampires but it is not focused on that alone. You travel back and "see" the styles and looks of London. In Lake Havasu, Arizona you can see the London Bridge. I recently did see it and read the history of some of the be-headings. When running through 1483 London with Maddie and Johnny it was neat to "see" the bridge and unfortunately even a few of those heads. I personally enjoyed this book and look forward to the next books in this series.

Congratulations on a novel that was captivating from the first page. I loved the way the Cody handled the vampires. It was so well done without the overkill that so many other books have.
The way that the main character Johnny is slowly developed really makes the reader get a connection to him.
I also liked the time travel and the way it was explained.
Overall I was so surprised by this book and I found it exceeded my expectations!
I am so glad to find out that this is going to be a series, as at the end of the novel, I wanted more.
For those of you into vampires and time travel, this book has both. I loved the characters and the plot twists. If I have to say anything negative, it would be that the whole high school trip vehicle did not seem to mesh with the feisty, smart heroine of the rest of the story. The plot twist about looking for her father just seemed superfluous.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys either genre. I stayed up all night reading it. That's the highest recommendation I can give a book.
Great story. The characters were real and believable, and this story was rich with detail on how the characters' journeys into the past affected their present/the future (which is something that some time-travel stories tend to gloss over, I guess because it can get complicated). But this story wasn't too complicated - it was just intricate and suspenseful enought to keep me interested the whole way through. I loved Johnny and loved getting to go back in time and see what he was like when he really was 21, before he was changed by 500 years of living as a lonely vampire. Can't wait for the next book to come out so I can see how Maddie & Johnny's romance progresses
There are quite a few things I enjoyed about this book, beginning with the title and simple yet communicative cover. What a refreshing and yet poignant way to say it all with so little!

I also enjoyed the fact that the storyline is different and the scenes flow in a smooth rapidly paced way (some people call that a page turner) and it certainly was for me.

The last thing I liked about this book is how well written it is. There are far too many good stories out there so riddled with typos and poor grammar that they are simply not worth the time of day.

The missing star is simply for subjective reasons; I wished the protagonist was older, I wish she'd made certain different choices and I feel the plot could have used more characters.

The verdict a good read!
This story took me by surprise, in a very good way! It is a very refreshing book in a market saturated with Vampire tales, but the Vampire aspect here is not the main focus. It certainly adds a lot of interest and intrigue for sure, but the story also includes time travel and historical elements that are extremely well written and are just as important to the plot. The protagonist, Maddie, is a strong and vivacious girl who has an amazing heart and the will to risk her life for what she believes in. There are some excellent twists throughout the story and I did not find it predictable at all.

Johnny "before and after" (you will need to read the story to understand exactly what that means!)is a great character and I loved how the author dealt with the varying aspects of his personality. The inclusion of the young Princes, Edward and Richard, into the storyline gave the story depth and purpose and I really enjoyed how Maddie interacted with them.

There were a few loose ends, but the conclusion is still very satisfying. I am really hoping to see a second book in the near future. I would love to know how the relationship between Maddie and Johnny develops and where it goes from here. All in all, I really enjoyed the story and I think it is well worth reading. I highly recommend it!
