It's a teen book from the 90's, and I'm 30 now. :) It was a lot more enjoyable back in the day, but I keep the series for nostalgia. FYI: Do not start reading these thinking about the t.v. show. They are so different that they aren't even recognizable as artistic influences. Btw amazon....can we get some more descriptive words for mood, please? Picking one word to describe a whole book is just highly inaccurate. lolTags : The Vampire Diaries: Dark Reunion on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers.,The Vampire Diaries: Dark Reunion,HarperCollins,0061990787
The Vampire Diaries Dark Reunion 9780061990786 Books Reviews
You simply MUST read this book series. Start from the beginning with Elena's diary entry and work up to the grand scale of events in "The Dark Reunion."
There is no doubt in my mind that L.J. Smith is a phenomenal storyteller. The way she weaves in words creates such a vivid image in my mind. The emotion she evokes is powerful and it should not be passed up. You should not pass up the the feelings that this book easily makes you feel with such care by the author.
Anger towards the injustice. The need to keep trying ) Fierce loyalty to what is right. To your friends. To your families. Love. Oh, how she writes of the divine beauty that is what Stephen and Elena share.
If anything, chapter 12 is simply beautiful. Of course it is tinged with bitterness, but it is epic in that the love that both Stephan and Elena hold for one another is just...so strong. Almost unheard of. I was left dumbfounded. Speechless. Chapter 12 will never leave my mind. ever. Please, you have to know what I'm talking about ) You have to read this series(!)
"The Dark Reunion" was quite the read. All coming together to fight what is basically personified as the evil, the unjust. The characters knew that had to keep trying. And they did =D I loved it.
You will never regret it once you've read this book. This treasure. This encompassing truth.
I have complained about Elena countless times, about her shallow personality, her whining voice, her stupid let's-not-ask-for-help attitude... Now I found out, The Vampire Diaries without Elena is even worse.
We now follow the story along from Bonnie's point of view. We never saw that much from her as a person in the other books. As it turns out, this was for good reason. Bonnie is just a bit of a boring character. She is a support character, a secondary. She is not a main. She has not enough depth, enough history, not enough complexity.
Worst thing is, she could have been more. Bonnie has a special gift. She is a descendant from the ancient Druids or something. She can contact ghosts through rituals. I wish there would have been more emphasis on her talents. That she had some more powers, something more useful. Now she had a few little cool moments in the beginning of the book, but when the action picked up, she became totally useless. She would stand watching along the lines thinking "Oh boy, I should really do something!". But she never has a shining moment.
This was the last part of the Vampire Diaries series that I had on my shelves, and it will be the last part I will read. After the completely unexplained deus ex machina ending of this book (which I thought was pretty lame) I have had enough. This series is definitely not for me.
Wow. I've been enjoying the T.V, show and thought I would try the books knowing that there's usually a difference in the storyline between the two.
Thank the Lord for television writers who's talents supercide a horrible writer who ruined a perfectly good story.
The Vampire Diaries book series is nice for the first 3 or 4 installments even though readers feel gypped about getting only 17 chapters in each book (based on several reviews printing the same thoughts).
The story flowed nicely until the writer messed with Elena and brought in a stupid character named Shinichi. If any other readers have read book 4 on up, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.
Elena died. Yup. Drowned but then became a vampire. Now, the story could have just gone on from there without screwing up the main character but no.
Elena then dies again as a vampire. Um....ok. But, since you can't kill off the main person of the entire story what are ya gonna do? that's right bring her back yet again. How?
AS A ANGEL. Wings and all. Oh, and powers that are stronger then anyone else as well. It's ridiculously stupid at this point. Elena has the mind of a 5 year old also but then magically gets back all her memory.
The rest of the story gets stranger and stranger as they're trapped in a snow globe and blah blah blah.
The entire story just falls apart.
You have to go back and re-read several paragraphs to try and figure out what the heck is going on. I stuck with it most of the way through this latest part but when I was about 80% of the way thru it, I said enough.
I discontinued it and went to find another book. A GOOD book this time.
My daughter absolutely loved this book! It arrived quickly and was exactly as described. Thanks!
I loooove TVD this book is a great read & I was stoked that I could purchase an older edition & get this awesome original cover art ;) great for any TVD lover it collector.
